Have you ever reorganised your closet and found clothing that you wanted to get rid of simply because you didn’t like it anymore? The reality is that at some point in their lives, almost everyone has disposed of a clothing article that was still in excellent condition.
With this in mind, Frameworq Design Lab invited a group of independent designers and some students from the Art Institute of Vancouver’s Fashion Design Programme to participate in a 2 month upcycling project. The purpose of this endeavour was to explore different ways to upcycle post-consumer materials into every day wear. These designers basically used “waste” as their main resource to produce clothing without the significant environmental impact that standard production processes require.
The end result of the upcycling project will be a fashion show to celebrate and showcase the new clothing after two months of intense work. Frameworq will be hosting their first Upcycled* Fashion Show on Saturday May 23rd, 2015 at 7:00PM at Club Five Sixty. This event will not only allow designers to exhibit their works, but will also feature comedy and musical performances.
Early Bird tickets for this event can be purchased at www.frameworq.ca, but you can also purchase regular price tickets at the door. One of the best parts about this is that tickets will also entitle you to stay at the club for the rest of the night!
Viva Vancity will be at the Upcycled* Fashion Show and we definitely would like to see you there! Come say hi to us!
Where: Club Five Sixty (560 Seymour Street, Vancouver, British Columbia V6B 3J5)
